In November 2013 the YPC went to the Albert Halls, Bolton, to see one of our beneficiaries, Courtney, take on the role of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. In our review of the night we reported that her performance on the night was outstanding and that she is exceptionally talented.
Courtney’s acting and singing skills continue to develop. On Saturday 28th March a seventeen strong group from the YPC were at Bury Met to see Courtney in her latest role, Molly, in Ghost the Musical. The production by the Youth Theatre Group of Prestwich Amateur Dramatic and Opera Society had the audience’s attention from the opening bars to the final curtain call. All the cast showed strong singing, dance and acting ability. The actors taking the lead roles of Molly, Sam, Carl and Oda Mae all gave strong confident performances. However the YPC Group had to vote Courtney’s portrayal of Molly as the best performance of the show. We are biased but her rendition of “With You” and “Nothing Stops Another Day” didn’t leave too many dry eyes in the audience. We all look forward to Molly’s next appearance.
All of the naysayers who constantly denigrate young people should take the time to see a performance by this Youth Theatre. This quality of the acting, singing and dancing is only achieved by the immense amount of work, time and determination given to rehearsal and listening to the directors, coaches and choreographers.
The ELMC Young People’s Committee is proud to work with all of the talented young people in East Lancashire who are supported by the RMTGB.
We were all filled with great sadness when we heard of the recent death of Angie Pickering. Throughout Nigel’s eleven years of service to the YPC, Angie always gave her unstinting support to our work.
