In March, Oldham Community Wardrobe, applied for a grant from the ELMC Grant-making committee for numerous items, but one item really stood out on the application, which was for easter eggs. So, with less than a week till Easter and a Grant Committee meeting not due until after Easter, Russ Perks, the Area Charity Steward asked the question to Karen at Hewlett Court, if it would be possible to get the easter eggs.

Karen came back with the wonderful news that we had been granted the £250 to get the easter eggs that was needed.

Oldham Community Wardrobe is a local volunteer run organisation set up by Sally Mahar, that helps families across the Oldham area who are experiencing poverty. It provides free, good-quality, pre-loved and new items to families in need. They also provide children’s and baby clothing, bedding, duvets and pyjamas for those who need them the most.

Oldham Community Wardrobe supports around 10,000 people per year and receives up to 80 referrals per week. They also do seasonal support, which includes Winter Wardrobe, Christmas Gifts, and the Easter Egg campaign. Last year alone, they donated over 7,000 easter eggs to young children in need in the surrounding area.

On the 31st of March the Russ Perks, Area Charity Steward, accompanied by the Deputy Area Chairman, Dave Jones made the short trip over to the Oldham Community Wardrobe to deliver 200 easter eggs made possible by the East Lancashire Masonic Charity.

Oldham Community Wardrobe is truly a wonderful organisation run by a very determined volunteer, Sally. If any of the Eastern Area lodges have any old clothes that they may not want, please consider taking them to Oldham Community Wardrobe.
