Brethren from both Districts of the Northern Area of our Province, came together to kick start the Hewlett Court wish list of improvements, put together by the residents and staff.

After a visit and meeting, arrangements were put into place and Hewlett Court was duly supplied with four Android 9″ Tablets and keyboard cases, 13 hanging baskets and brackets (fitted by the Brethren) and the supply of compost and bedding plants for the residents own use, much to the delight of all at this very special home.

Residents can now use the tablets for email, Skype, internet services, catch up TV, electronic books and many other services.
Eight of the hanging baskets were installed to the front entrance and seating areas, followed by another five in the central courtyard area. Bedding plants and compost was also supplied for the residents own use in the existing baskets and plant beds.

Northern Area APGM, WBro Martin Roche PSGD, along with his two District Chairmen WBro Paul Thornton PProvGSwdBr (Burnley & Pendle) and WBro David Lightbown PProvJGW (East Ribble) were delighted to make the presentation to the Director of Operations Mrs Julie Ward, Secretary WBro Michael Williams, the dedicated Hewlett Court Staff and most importantly, the residents of our home.

Hewlett Court is a remarkably well managed Masonic retirement home, treasured by the whole of our Province. It is located in its own grounds in a peaceful residential setting, with spacious rooms, excellent facilities and an exceptional level of care and support, stemming from a consistent management structure and truly dedicated staff.

However, in a commercially competitive area, improvements are always needed to keep our home one step in front. It is hoped that these improvements for the residents will inspire other Areas and their Districts to get involved, using their expertise, knowledge and good will.

Other items on the Hewlett Court Wish list include:-

Dining Room redecoration, including curtains etc and serving facilities
Hairdresser’s room needs updating
Courtyard Gazebo need maintaining, repainting etc.
Courtyard flags and walls need levelling and some changes needed
External garden and paving maintenance
Shelving (fixed or free standing) needed for the store and sluice rooms

The home currently has 12 room vacancies at present, an unusually high number due to long term residents moving in to nursing home facilities. If anyone requires any further information on Hewlett Court or can offer any support from the wish list, please contact the Director of Operations Mrs Julie Ward on 01204 887531 orjulie.ward@eastlancsmasons.org.uk
