Sunday February 26th was a very special day for Hewlett Court resident Ernest Norbury. Not only was it his 97th birthday but the occasion was celebrated by the presence of a Scottish Pipe and Drum Band.
On a bitterly cold morning, accompanied by his son David and daughter-in-law Pam, Ernest was seated just outside of the Hewlett Court entrance not really knowing what to expect. The sound of the pipes and drums was heard in the distance and then the World Famous Oldham Scottish Pipe Band marched round the corner to paradeĀ and play in honour of Ernest.
As a former player Ernest was obviously excited and his approval was shown by the applause he gave after each number.
On the completion of their set the members of the band individually congratulated Ernest on his birthday and joined him for a photograph before going into the home for a well earned cup of hot tea!
