In December 2016 the Grange Community Bowling Club, through the Bank Terrace with King Oswald Lodge, successfully applied for an ELMC Grant of £740 to upgrade their disabled toilet facilities. The club is situated next to and in the grounds of All Saints Church in Clayton Le Moors, not too far from the Masonic Hall.
As the picture below shows the facilities were in a poor state, with an outside blockwork wall being sodden with damp.
After much remedial work and damp proofing to the wall a waterproof internal plastic layer was added which has much improved the facility.
Unfortunately the remedial work did cost more than expected so most of the grant was used for that purpose. A disabled WC alarm was to have been included but the good news is that this is now being funded from a grant form another source.
The club has some 100 members but it is more than just a bowling club. An organisation called New Focus makes much use of the facilities. New Focus cares for adults with learning difficulties.
Many woman with needs use the green with their carers for leisure activities and the RNLI uses the club for their fundraising events. The club also holds open days for young people.
All in all a very worthwhile facility serving the local community and a grant well spent.
